There will also be scope for gaining plant experience in reactor and conventional plant operation, in fault diagnosis, and in the application of the Safety Rules to release plant for maintenance. Initially there will be a training period of 12- 18 months, which will cover plant familiarisation and reactor desk control work, including a structured simulator programme. Following the training period formal authorisation will be required before Assistant Engineer Operations status is achieved. During the training period there will be a period of time spent in the Operations Services Section. You will be responsible for the safe and compliant operation of a reactor as part of a Central Control Room team.
